Kawamoto Pool to Close for Maintenance; NAS Hours Extended

The Charles “Sparky” Kawamoto Swim Stadium in Hilo will be closed for regular maintenance beginning Thursday.
The maintenance, which is needed to maintain the pool’s filter system, is scheduled to last until Friday, Aug. 9, a spokesman for the county Department of Parks and Recreation said.
The operating hours at the NAS Swimming Pool will be expanded to accommodate swimmers during the shutdown.
The NAS expanded hours are as follows:
Aug. 1-2
- Adult lap swim – 9 to 10 a.m., and noon to 1 p.m.
- Public recreational swim – 5:30 to 7:10 p.m.
Aug. 3-4
- Public recreational swim – 9 to 10:45 a.m., and 1 to 4:10 p.m.
- Adult lap swim – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Aug. 5-9
- Adult lap swim – 9 to 10 a.m., and noon to 1 p.m.
- Public recreational swim – 5:30 to 7:10 p.m.
