An electrical issue may be the cause of a fire that damaged a Waimea home Saturday night, a fire department spokesman said.

Firefighters arriving at the home on Laelae Way at 7:03 p.m. found heavy smoke coming from the windows of the two-story house.

After entering the home they found the fire contained to the bathroom. A possible origin was an applicance plugged into a power strip next to a sink, although the investigation into the cause is continuing.

Damage was estimated at $10,000.
