County water service will be turned off in the Pauka`a area of Hilo for five hours on Thursday, June 20.

The outage is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. along Pauka`a place on the makai side of Hawaii Belt Road. The affected area includes Kahoa Place and Honoli`i Place.

The county Department of Water Supply said the outage is needed to change a leaking water valve.

Upon resumption of water service, the waterlines will be flushed and cleaned during which time turbid or discolored water may be noticed, the department said.

Air may also become trapped in plumbing and will be released as water is used.

Affected customers are asked to take any and all precautions necessary to protect their property and facilities including disabling electrical power to pumps or other devices where normal operation may be dependent on water pressure or supply, and which might be harmed if automatically energized during the water shut-off.
