Kai Opua Canoe Club and Hui Wa`a O Waiakea were the big winners at Saturday’s King Kamehameha Day Regatta at Kailua Pier, hosted by Kai Opua.

Kai Opua’s dominance of the A Division continued with their third division victory in as many races this season. Saturday’s margin of victory was the largest of the three races, however. Second place finisher Keaukaha Canoe Club finished 35 points behind Kai Opua’s 210.

For Hui Wa`a, their victory in the B Division was their second straight finish at the top of the standings. Tied in second place were Waikoloa Canoe Club, the winner of the season opening regatta, and Keoua Canoe Club. Both finished with 20 points, 13 behind Waiakea.

The fourth regatta of the season will be held on Saturday, June 15 at Hilo Bayfront. Kailana Canoe Club is the designated host. The rest of this season’s events will be held in East Hawai`i.
