It’s Time for ‘Great Leaps’ at UH-Hilo
The always-popular “Great Leaps” spring Dance Concert is coming to the University of Hawaii at Hilo Performing Arts Center on Saturday, April 27.
This year’s performance features 11 different dance styles and moods, showcasing the skills of 100 different artists.
Faculty members Celeste Staton, Annie Bunker and Kea Kapahua will present demonstrations of modern technique, jazz dance, and ballet. The advanced ballet class of UH-Hilo will perform a fusion of choreographic contributions including Irish step dancing, jazz and contemporary techniques threaded with classical ballet.
Trina Nahm Mijo will guest-choreograph an ocean-inspired performance with the UH-Hilo Dance Ensemble.
In addition, seniors Scott Wuscher and Stephanie Whitehall will showcase a passion-filled duet jointly created, featuring intricate partner work.
Meika Wilde, also a UH-Hilo senior, will perform her directed studies project, and long-time favorite dancer/choreographer Dori Yamada will once again take the UHHPAC stage to present another of her innovative works.
Showtimes are at 2 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $7 general, $5 seniors, students and children. This is an open-seating event. Call (808) m974-7310 to order by phone.
