South Kohala Vacation Home Damaged by Fire

A fire this morning caused an undetermined amount of damage to a vacation rental home in South Kohala.

Firefighters responding to a 6:10 a.m. call arrived at Mauna Kea Fairways South found flames in the kitchen area of the home on Ahuula Place.

Thirteen firefighters and three engines from the South Kohala fire station arrived at the scene at 6:23 a.m. It took eight minutes to get the blaze under control and another 15 minutes to extinguish it.

A station spokesman said the fire burned through the ceiling of the home and into its shingle-style roofing.

Security at the upscale community told firefighters there were no occupants in the home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
