Fire department investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that broke out early this morning at a condominium at the Keauhou Surf & Racquet Club on Ali`i Drive in Kona.

Firefighters from the Keauhou fire station arriving at the scene at 1:23 a.m. found the fire in the attic space, with heavy smoke coming out of the building’s eaves.

A department spokesman said fighting the blaze was difficult because a metal roof had been placed over wood shingles and cedar planks. Firefighters pulled off the metal roof to extinguish the fire.

Damage was estimated at $90,000.
