A 55-year-old Puna man who allegedly barricaded himself in his home Tuesday and prevented his wife from leaving was charged today with first-degree terroristic threatening and four firearms offenses.

Bail for Jeffrey K. Canabantan was set at $104,000.

Police responding to Canabantan’s home on Ahi Avenue in the Eden Roc subdivision at about 9 a.m. Tuesday were told that a 35-year-old female relative had managed to exit the house. She informed police that Canabantan had numerous weapons and was not allowing his 55-year-old wife to leave the dwelling.

The police department’s Special Response Team tactical unit negotiated with Canabantan and convinced him to surrender at about 3:45 p.m.
