Volcano Village calls forth the tea lover in you.

Each Tuesday at 2 p.m., tea enthusiasts and neophytes gather to talk tea and share a romantic afternoon with this lovely and healthful beverage.

JoAnn Aguirre, tea educator, member of the Hawai’i Tea Society, and passionate devotee to the cuppa, offers talks, tastings, and nibbles for the hour-long free series.

Learn more about the Camellia sinensis and its buds and leaves, which have held tea lovers in thrall since pre-classical times. Enjoyment of tea has been recorded by the Chinese, as early as 350 A.D.

A gorgeous backdrop in Volcano Village enhances the warmth of each cup, as sips are savored between educational discussions on local teas, Volcano’s tea growers and more.

The Volcano Art Center is the site for this donations-appreciated, free event. Past tea gatherings have included special sakura, or cherry blossom flavored green teas.

The center is located at the Niaulani Campus on 19-4074 Old Volcano Road in Volcano Village. For more information visit www.volcanoartcenter.org, www.teachingtea.com, or call 967-8222.
