Robbery of Tourist Reported at Rainbow Falls Park

Police are investigating a robbery reported Wednesday afternoon at Rainbow Falls State Park in Hilo.

A 49-year-old man from Beijing told police that he was assaulted by a male and robbed of his belongings near the park’s bathroom.

The tourist said he had left his tour group to use the restroom.

The incident was the second robbery of tourists on Wednesday.

A couple camping at Kolekole Beach Park north of Hilo told police that they were robbed by a man wielding a knife who had entered their tent before dawn and took their belongings and their rental car.

The suspect in the latest incident was described as possibly in his 30’s or 40’s, about 6-feet tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a dark-blue shirt with light-colored stripes, and dark-colored pants.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the police department’s non-emergency number at 935-3311.
