Groundbreaking on Jan. 31 for Kawaihae Harbor Improvements

A groundbreaking ceremony for improvements at Kawaiahae Harbor will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Pier 2 terminal.
The project includes construction of a three-acre cargo yard, additional lighting, a comfort station and establishment of a temporary harbor office.
Glenn Okimoto, director of the state Department of Transportation, will be speaking at the event.
Kawaihae Harbor is one of two deep-draft harbors on the Big Island.
***Updated at 12:30 p.m. to reflect updated information from the state DOT that Gov. Neil Abercrombie will not be attending the ceremony.***
