Brush Fire in Ka`u Blackens 15 Acres

Hawaii County firefighters responded to a brushfire in Ka`u at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The fire was burning in pasture land makai of Highway near the 63-mile marker. It was brought under control at about 10:45 p.m.
Efforts were hampered by tradewinds blowing up to 25 mph.
The cause of the fire that blackened about 15 acres is still under investigation.

Police officers controlled traffic at the scene.
