A 33-year-old Hilo man was arrested by police Monday following a confrontation in which he allegedly charged at officers with a shovel and a knife.

The incident began at about 6 p.m. when police received a report of a man trespassing on the property of a Wainaku Street business.

When responding officers encountered Samuel J.K. Delosantos on the property, the man repeatedly threatened them and then charged at them with the items, police said.

Following a brief standoff, Delosantos was arrested. He was charged Tuesday with burglary, criminal property damage and three counts of terroristic threatening.
