Witnesses Sought to July 13 Crash Involving Motorcycle

Big Island police are again asking the public for assistance in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred July 13 at the intersection of Kinoole and Mohouli streets.

They request that witnesses who may have seen the crash or either vehicle prior to the crash come forward.

The incident involved a Hilo man operating a 2007 Honda motorcycle north on Kinoole Street at about 10 p.m. The motorcycle struck a 2003 Honda sedan traveling south on Kinoole Street after its driver, a 67-year-old Kailua-Kona woman, failed to yield right of way and made a left turn onto Mohouli Street in front of the vehicle.

The motorcycle’s rider, 55-year-old Earl M. Arakaki, was hospitalized following the crash and succumbed to his injuries on Aug. 26.
