A house in the Hawaiian Acres subdivision in upper Puna was destroyed by a fire of unknown origin Wednesday night.

Firefighters arriving at the home on Kea Road, also known as “B” Road, at 7:32 p.m. found the 900-square-foot home fully engulfed in flames.

According to acting Captain Chris Gomes of the Keaau Fire Station, no one was home at the time. A crew from Hawaii Electric Light Co. cut the electrical supply to the structure.

It took 11 firefighters, including two from the subdivision’s volunteer department, nearly an hour to extinguish the blaze using two engines and a tanker truck.
