A Volcano man was in police custody today with his bail set at $120,000 after being charged with several firearms and drug offenses.

Keith Kapena Hulihee, 49, was initially arrested Sunday night after police responded to reports of shots being fired in his Mauna Loa Estates neighborhood.

When officers contacted Hulihee, he told them he had an explosive device that he wanted to turn in to police. Police found the device on his property and evacuated nearby residents.

Military personnel experienced in unexploded ordnance who were training at Pohakuloa Training Area responded to the scene and determined that the device was a military gas canister that did not pose danger to nearby residents.

Meanwhile, police using a search warrant allegedly found ammunition and drugs on Hulihee’s property. He was charged on Monday with four counts of being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition and single counts of promotion of a dangerous drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
