Starting Tuesday, Big Island RBI, the West Region championship softball team representing the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island, will vie for another world championship when they compete in the RBI Softball World Series in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Pool play begins on August 7 with doubleheaders on each day. Four teams will compete in pool play, with Big Island RBI playing in the American League Central division. Based on each team’s success in their six divisional games, each team will advance to the “Interleague Playoffs” and seeded by their record. Winners will advance to the semi-finals, and eventually, the championship game, which will be played on Sunday, August 12.
On opening day, Big Island RBI will open up at 8:30 a.m. Hawaii time when they taken on Hoboken (NJ) RBI, the Northeast Regional champion. After that game, they move fields to take on Harrisburg RBI out of Pennsylvania, the Mid-Atlantic Regional winner.
The second day of competition, August 8, doesn’t begin with more softball, but starts with a team photo at Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins baseball team. After that, they head to the Neiman Athletic Complex for a rematch with Harrisburg RBI at 5:30 a.m. Hawaii time, followed by their first meeting against Cleveland RBI out of Ohio, the East Region champion.
Thursday’s action gets underway bright and early at 9:00 a.m. in Minnesota, 4:00 a.m. in the islands, with a rematch between Cleveland RBI and Big Island RBI. That’s followed by a re-match with Hoboken RBI immediately following the opening game of the day.
Should Big Island RBI make the championship game, the broadcast would air on MLB Network on Friday, August 17 at 6:00 a.m. Hawaii time.

Along with the four teams in the American League Central division pool, the four teams in the National League Central pool are RBI Atlanta, Dominican Republic RBI, Houston RBI, and Matthews-Dickey Boys and Girls Club RBI.
