The Hawai`i Island Humane Society’s 5th annual Hawai`i Horse Expo will be held Aug. 11-12 in Waimea.

The event for the first time will be co-hosted by the Paniolo Preservation Society at its Paniolo Heritage Center at the Pukalani Stables.

Those giving clinics for this year’s event include Charles Wilhelm, creator of the equine handling technique Ultimate Foundation Training; Dr. Robert Miller, a California-based veterinarian and renowned equine behaviorist and lecturer; Dr. Brady Bergin, a Big Island-born veterinarian who will lead an equine first-aid clinic; Rick Lamb, popular host of RFD TV’s “The Horse Show”; and Elizabeth Mason, an actress who will assist Lamb as the expo’s moderator.

Others include Linda Tellington-Jones, a noted authority on animal behavior who developed TTouch and TTeam work for horses, and Richard Winters, a well-known horse trainer.

The venue of Pukalani Stables allows for three expo programs to occur simultaneously. A wide array of vendors will also be available.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Humane Society’s Horse Rescue Fund, which helps abused and abandoned horses on the Big Island.
