Construction and maintenance projects will result in traffic delays next week from Monday through Friday — except for the July 4th holiday — on a variety of Big Island roadways, the state Department of Transportation said today.

Tree-trimming will result in alternating single lane closures on the Hawaii Belt Road, also known as Highway 19, in the vicinity of Maulua Gulch. The affected stretch of roadway is located between Piha Kahuku Road and Middle Road. Closer to Hilo, the portion of the belt road between Kaiwiki Road and the Old Onomea Road will have alternating lane closures for roadway restriping work. Both are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Alternating lane closures will also be in effect from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Volcano Highway in Mountain View for roadside utility installations.

On the island’s leeward side, the Akoni-Pule Highway will have alternating lane closures between the 5- and 15-mile markers in the area of Mahukona for pavement resurfacing. The work will be done between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

More resurfacing work will require lane closures between the 2- and 7-mile markers on Kohala Mountain Road in the vicinity of Waiaka Junction, also from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
