Bank of Hawaii held an official grand opening for its latest Kailua-Kona branch today at the Kona Commons Shopping Center. The new banking center had a soft opening two weeks ago on June 11.

According to bank officials, the new 6,926-square-foot branch at 74-5457 Makala Boulevard is considered the bank’s flagship branch for the entire Big Island. It replaces the 8,700-square-foot location in the Lanihau Marketplace on Palani Road. All 29 employees from the Lanihau branch will remain working at the new branch.

The Kona Commons branch is the third Bank of Hawaii to have a photovoltaic system atop its roof. The other two Bank of Hawaii branches using solar power are on Oahu.

The new Bank of Hawaii branch will be open Monday -Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
