Hawaii County will hold a meeting for the public Monday to explain new requirements for obtaining a driver license or permit.

The rules are based on federal and state mandates prohibiting the issuing of driver licenses to any person not legally authorized to be in the US.

Individuals applying for a new or renewed license are now required to provide proof of identity, date of birth and social security number. They are also required to provide proof of legal presence which can include a US birth certificate, US passport or other documents.

Monday’s meeting, the first in a series on the subject, will be held from 5-6 p.m. at the Aupuni Center Conference Room at 101 Aupuni St. in Hilo.
