Renovated Reed’s Bay Beach Park Reopening Saturday
A ceremony will be held Saturday to mark the reopening of a popular Hilo park on Banyan Drive.
The Reed’s Bay Beach Park now features new landscaping, paved walkways, outdoor showers, picnic tables and a drinking fountain.
The park has been closed since August while the $691,000 renovation project was underway by contractor Nan Inc. A $249,000 federal grant helped finance the renovation which also involved work by Department of Parks and Recreation staff.
While parking at the facility previously occurred close to the ocean, vehicular access will now be restricted to boat owners actively launching or retrieving vessels authorized to be moored in the bay.
The public is invited to the ceremony scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon. Refreshments will be served.
This is the second reopening of a renovated county park in Hilo this month, following a ceremony at the refurbished Gilbert Carvalho Park on April 12.
