One individual is dead in what is being called a possible “suicide attempt” by the Hawaii Fire Department Thursday.

The incident took place at Nanue Bridge, which is located at about the 18.5 mile marker on Highway 19. Fire department units first responded to the scene at 5:55 p.m. They said that the individual fell off of the bridge, plunging 500 feet down to rocks and into a riverbed.

Highway 19 was closed in that area for a brief period of time while fire department officials recovered the body from the riverbed. The body and scene was then placed in control of the Hawaii Police Department.

The description, including name, gender, and age, of the individual has not been released by authorities.
