Big Island police are looking for a 22-year-old Puna man in connection with a shooting of a man driving on Highway 130 last year.

Police said they would like to question Misinale Kalavi Jr. of the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision about the shooting Oct. 22 of a man driving in the area of the Ainaloa subdivision.

The victim, a 36-year-old Kea‘au man, sustained a head wound when the occupant of a teal-colored sedan allegedly shot at him. The victim was treated at Hilo Medical Center and released.

Kalavi is described as 6-foot-1 and 280 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Police said he is known to frequent both the Puna and Kona areas.

Police advised the public not to approach Kalavi but to call the police department’s non-emergency number at 961-3311 or Det. Robert Almeida at 961-2386. Almeida can be reached by email at [email protected]
