A 35-year-old Hilo man was arrested Saturday for allegedly using a cellular telephone to take pictures of a woman and a girl in public bathrooms.

Police said Faavae E. Tuinei was charged Monday with two counts of violation of privacy in connection with the incidents. He was initially being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Police received a report that Tuinei allegedly went into a stall in a women’s bathroom and used the phone to record a 24-year-old woman in the adjacent stall. When confronted by witnesses, the suspect fled the area on foot.

Less than an hour later in a public bathroom in the Panaewa area, Tuinei was allegedly observed using a phone to record a 13-year-old girl in an adjacent stall. Police said a relative of the victim detained Tuinei until officers arrived.
