BRIEF: Latest DUI Numbers Show Continued Rise in Arrests
For the sixth consecutive week, DUI arrests are rising by percentage in comparison to 2011.
According to the Hawaii Police Department, arrests for those who drive under the influence are ahead of last year’s pace by seven percent. Twenty-seven more drivers were added to the list this past week, with four of them under the legal drinking age of 21, and six who were a part of traffic accidents.
The number of major traffic accidents on Hawai’i Island continue to rise ahead of last year’s numbers. Those incidents have risen 6.7 percent from last year’s mark at this time, with 25 more crashes taking place.
The number of traffic fatalities remains unchanged from last week. Seven people have died on the island’s roadways this year, up from the six that lost their lives at the same time in 2011.
