Big Island police are asking for the public’s help finding a car belonging to a man found dead last month in the ocean at a popular Puna surf spot.

The body of Dennis Eugene White, 62, was found Jan. 17 partially submerged near Isaac Hale Beach Park in Pohoiki. An autopsy showed White died from a head injury.

Police have been unable to locate White’s vehicle, a black or dark green 1998 Jeep Wrangler with a tan soft top and license plate HDY 926. White was last seen driving the Jeep alone near Papaya Farms Road in Kapoho in the early evening hours the day before he was found.

The case is currently classified as a coroner’s inquest but police have not ruled out foul play in White’s death.
