Brief: Kalapana Woman Points Air-Rifle at Passersby on Highway

Around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday February 22, Welo Kuuipo Dela Cruz pointed a rifle at passersby at the end of Highway 130. While not immediately apparent, the rifle was later identified as an air-rifle. Police arrested Dela Cruz, taken to Hilo Police cell block, then later that night, released her pending further investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or similar incidents may report them to Detective Ernest Matsumoto at 961-2379, e-mail him at ematsumoto@co.hawaii.hi.us, or call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous may call 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. Individuals who report useful information may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
