A 42-year-old Kona man was ordered to appear in District Court Monday after being charged with trafficking of methamphetamine and other offenses.

Bail for Chad Cunningham of Kailua-Kona was set at $116,500 after he was charged Thursday for meth trafficking, promoting a dangerous drug, possession of an illegal stun gun, reckless endangering, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The reckless endangerment charge against Cunningham, who made his initial court appearance this morning, stemmed from an attempted traffic stop that occurred Jan. 31 on Ali‘i Drive. Police said Cunningham fled in his vehicle when officers tried to pull him over and in the process passed a stopped school bus dropping off passengers.

On Wednesday, police took Cunningham into custody following a foot chase as he was leaving an Ali‘i Drive apartment complex. Police obtained a search warrant to inspect a bag Cunningham was carrying and allegedly found 13.4 grams of crystal methamphetamine in 14 packages, drug paraphernalia and an electric stun gun.
