Hawai`i Police Report 30 DUI Arrests

The Hawai`i Police Department has issued its report for DUI arrests made during the week of Aug. 12 through Aug. 18.

During that time, HPD officers arrested 30 motorists for driving under the influence. Three of those drivers had been involved in traffic crashes. Three of those arrested were under the age of 21.

Last weeks arrests bring the total number of DUI citations up to 792 this year, compared with 878 during the same period in 2012, a decrease of 9.8%.

To date, there have been 853 major accidents so far this year on the Big Island, compared with 926 during the same time in 2012, a decrease of 7.9%.

Police announced last week that they would be stepping up DUI roadblocks island-wide as part of a national campaign against drunk driving. The increased checkpoint activity is set to continue through the beginning of September.
