A 29-year-old Puna man was being held on $38,000 bail after being charged Tuesday afternoon in connection with an incident the day before involving a firearm.

Police responding Monday to a 2:24 a.m. call from a home on 28th Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park were told by its occupant that he and Peter Johnston-Riveira had got into an argument. The 50-year-old resident told police that Johnston-Riveira then brandished a rifle and threatened to shoot him.

Police seized the rifle and arrested Johnston-Riveira. He was charged Tuesday with first-degree terroristic threatening and four firearms offenses.

He was being held at the Hilo cellblock pending an initial court appearance.
