UPDATE: 12:15 PM, Tuesday, April 23, 2019

First responders arrived on the scene off the coast near Anaeho‘omalu Bay (A-Bay) 8:35 a.m. this morning to find a 65-year-old female visitor who was bitten on right inner, upper thigh.

The bite mark was approximately 12 inches in diameter.

She was approximately several hundred yards offshore and brought in prone on a kayak via bystanders.

The victim does not remember events prior to being bitten.

She was transported in stable condition via Chopper 2 to North Hawai‘i Community Hospital.

Chopper 2 conducted a shoreline check within a hour of the incident, surveying several miles of ocean and along the coastline with negative findings.

The Hawai‘i Fire Department reports a shark attack occurred off the coast near Anaeho‘omalu Bay (A-Bay) around 8:30 this morning.

The beaches in the vicinity are closed until further notice.
