Man Drowns at South Point Landing

The Hawai‘i Fire Department reports that one person drowned and one was injured today, Monday, Feb. 5, 2018.

Fire Fighters responded to swimmers in distress at the South Point Landing around 2:06 p.m. Enroute to the scene HFD learned that a female swimmer in her 20s made it to the shore and lost contact with the male swimmer she was with.

HFD reports that upon their arrival at 2:28 p.m., the female was found with minor scrapes to her legs. The female reported that a male in his 20s was missing in approximately 50 feet of water.

A good Samaritan on a boat was able to assist with the location of the victim and Chopper One and HFD rescue personnel located, then free dived to recover the victim.

The scene was turned over to the Hawai‘i Police Department.
