TripAdvisor: Big Island No. 2 U.S. Island

The Big Island has been named the second best island in the United States in TripAdvisor’s 2015 Travelers’ Choice Awards.

Maui took the overall title as it ranked number one as best island in the country. Maui also ranked as the second best island in the world. Kauai followed the Big Island on the best of the U.S. list at number three.

TripAdvisor regarded the Big Island as “a bit slower… and locals like it that way.”

Noting the island’s beauty, TripAdvisor wrote, “The natural beauty and ecological features of the island are a draw for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.”

The Big Island offers a little of everything with its diverse terrain, from Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park to the summit of Mauna Kea and the white strands of beaches and crystal clear waters of West Hawai’i, to lush tropical rainforests sprinkled with waterfalls.

Previously, the Big Island gained recognition on TripAdvisor’s list of top beaches in the U.S. Manini’owali Beach, best known to locals as Kua Bay, was named the 15^th best beach in the country.
