Search Underway for Missing Man Near Pohoiki

The Coast Guard, along with the Hawai`i County Fire Department, are searching for a 65-year-old man who reportedly fell off of an outdoor skiff at Pohoiki Bay.

According to a Coast Guard release, 65-year-old Charles Rosecranes was operating a 15-foot outdoor skiff with a friend when he allegedly fell overboard. He was last seen at around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The Coast Guard got involved after receiving a call from HFD. Fire crews are being joined in the search by members of the Hilo-based Coast Guard Cutter Kiska and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, which is coming from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point.

Rosecranes is 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a blue and white pin-striped shirt, rain coat, pants, and rubber boots.
