The body of a Pepeekeo man missing since Friday at Akaka Falls State Park was found Sunday morning by divers at the bottom of a pool a quarter-mile below the falls.

Police said foul play is not suspected in the death.

The park located near Honomu, 11 miles north of Hilo, was closed Saturday and Sunday to allow the Hawaii Fire Department to carry out the search for 53-year-old Jeffrey Reyes.

Police said Reyes was reported missing Friday night. He was last seen Friday morning leaving his van in the parking lot of the park popular with both visitors and residents.

The van was still in the parking lot when it closed at 6 p.m.

The fire department began looking for Reyes Friday night, and resumed the search at first light on Saturday using both ground teams and aerial reconnaissance using one of the department’s helicopters.

On Sunday, four divers, two equipped with scuba gear, searched a pond of Kolekole Stream located near Kahuna Falls.

Reyes body was found at the bottom of the 30-foot-deep pond. It was extricated from the area by Chopper 1 using a Billy Pugh net.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
