Two Injured in House Fire in Hilo’s Kaumana Area

A home in the Kaumana area of Hilo was damaged in a fire early today that also injured two of its occupants.

A fire department spokesman said the blaze on Uhaloa Rd. was reported at 4:14 a.m. Firefighters arriving 11 minutes later found the front bedroom in flames with the fire spreading into the hallway.

The fire was extinguished by 4:45 a.m. The amount of damage to the home was not immediately available.

According to Capt. James Pacheco of the Kaumana Fire Station, all of the home’s residents were already out of the house, although two of them sustained injuries and were transported to Hilo Medical Center.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Red Cross was assisting those displaced by the fire.
