Power Outages Set for North Kohala Wednesday, Thursday Nights

Hawaii Electric Light Co. has scheduled two overnight power outages this week that will affect all of North Kohala.

The outages are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. both Wednesday and Thursday and to last until 5 a.m. the following mornings.

The Big Island utility said the outages are needed to upgrade equipment at the Waimea substation.

HELCO is recommending unplugging any sensitive electrical equipment prior to the outages.

It said those requiring electricity for critical medical needs should make alternate arrangements.
