Police have identified a man found dead this morning after his large pickup truck went off Highway 11 in South Kona and struck a tree.

Marcus Aickin, 38, of Ocean View was dead at the scene, a fire department spokesman said.

Paramedics responding to an 8:44 a.m. call found Aickin in the driver’s seat of his 2008 Ford F-450 truck, still wearing his seatbelt.

The northbound four-door pickup with dual rear tires had run off the right side of the road and down a 10-foot embankment.

The accident prompted the closure this morning of one lane of the highway at the accident site about one fifth of a mile south of the 97-mile marker.

An autopsy will be conducted Thursday to determine the exact cause of death. Because the death may have been caused by a medical condition, police said they are waiting for the results of the autopsy before adding it to the county’s official traffic fatality count.
