Police on Monday charged a 59-year-old Ocean View man with second-degree murder in connection with the 2006 death of his wife.

Daniel DeJarnette was arrested after a grand jury returned an indictment in the death of 56-year-old Yu DeJarnette.

The Associated Press has reported that DeJarnette is a retired Los Angeles police detective. DeJarnette pleaded not guilty to the charge, AP said.

DeJarnette told officers responding to his home on Nov. 12, 2006 that he had found his wife lying on a lava embankment near their house.
