#winds

Tropical Storm Hone forms in Central Pacific, expected to pass near or south of Big Island this weekend

The storm was located 885 miles east-southeast of Hilo and 915 miles east-southeast of South Point as of 11 a.m. today, moving west-northwest at 14 mph. It could be close to hurricane strength by this weekend.

Update: Red flag warning canceled; wind advisory extended through Wednesday

As a wind advisory is still in effect, continue to exercise caution as dry conditions will continue to persist.

Rare flying-saucer-shaped clouds hovered over Big Island on Wednesday

On Wednesday, the Big Island was treated to relatively rare lower-atmospheric spectacles for skies over Hawai‘i — lenticular clouds. The thick, lens-shaped, bright white, fluffy masses hovered high in the otherwise clear blue sky for most of the day.

Update: Winter storm warning issued for Big Island summits

The National Weather Service has upgrade the winter storm watch to a winter storm warning for the summits of Maunakea and Mauna Loa.
