Replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall on public display in Hawai‘i for the first time ever

Today kicks off a week of events honoring veterans lost during the Vietnam War. The wall, standing in a grassy field along the Hilo Bayfront, will be open to visitation 24 hours a day and a closing ceremony will take place on Saturday. The events are open and free to the public.

The memorial was made a possible by a group of Vietnam veterans who formed the nonprofit West Hawai‘i Vietnam Veterans War Memorial Association. The group raised $75,000 in 17 months to construct the 6-foot-tall by 7-foot-long memorial, crafted in basalt rock.

2 Hawai‘i Vietnam Veterans Awarded Medal of Honor

President Joe Biden awarded the Medal of Honor, Tuesday to four Army soldiers, two of which were from Hawaii, for their heroism during the Vietnam War.
