State alerts residents about recalled carrots linked to multistate E. coli outbreak
There had been one death, 39 reported illnesses and 15 hospitalizations as of Nov. 19 in 18 states connected with the outbreak. State health officials are investigating if the carrots have caused illness or adverse effects in Hawaiʻi.

Products include Kodiak Cakes, Good & Gather and Great Value brands sold throughout the United States, including at supermarkets and retailers in Hawai‘i.

State says ‘awa, also known as kava, is ‘generally recognized as safe’
Based on numerous scientific journals and publications provided to the Health Department and College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, the state concluded that the use of the noble variety of ‘awa root, mixed with water or coconut water, is safe and consistent with the substance and intent of federal regulations.
