Hawaiian Electric to launch new program as ‘last line of defense’ against wildfires
Just as its name suggests, the Public Safety Power Shutoff program, which launches July 1 in high risk areas on four islands incuding the Big Island, involves preemptively shutting off power in locations at high risk of fire, where high winds, low humidity and dry or drought conditions are forecast.
