Waters at Māhukona Landing in North Hawai‘i being retested after high level of bacteria discovered

Hawai‘i Department of Health issued a high bacteria notification for the area after higher than normal bacteria level of 178 per 100 mL was found during recent routine monitoring. There is no known source of fecal contamination.

Update: State cancels high bacteria count notification for Honoli‘i Cove in East Hawai‘i

Bacteria levels of 1,652 per 100 mL were detected during routine monitoring. Another water sample was collected and the site is being retested.

Update: State health department cancels high bacteria count notification for Richardson Ocean Park

The department is retesting waters at the park because of uncertainty about the representativeness of a first sample after finding bacteria levels of of 591 per 100 mL during routine beach monitoring.

Update: High bacteria count notification canceled for West Hawai‘i beach

Results of water sample retesting at Puako Middle of Lot on the Kohala Coast showed that enterococci levels no longer exceed the acceptable threshold.
