#Negligent Homicide

In the wake of the tragic Cristmas Eve accident, Hawaiʻi lost an esteemed emergency physician, Dr. Judy Fitzgerald, who left an indelible mark on patients and colleagues across the island.

Kimo K. Medeiros, 43 of Kurtistown, is facing 12 charges, including two counts of manslaughter.

43-year-old Kimo K. Medeiros of Kurtistown was arrested Oct. 28 in Honolulu; he remains behind bars and was ordered to return to Hilo District Court on Nov. 3 for a preliminary hearing in the case of the fatal Oct. 23 collision on Daniel K. Inouye Highway.

A tragic two-vehicle collision on the Daniel K. Inouye Highway on Oct. 23 has now claimed its second victim, 3-week-old Aniana Masaichy.

37-year-old Brandon Walser, from Oklahoma, has been extradited to Hawaiʻi Island to face multiple felony charges, including manslaughter and negligent homicide, following a tragic crash on February 26, 2024, that killed Marcella Tellez.

Hawai‘i Island police identified the man as Terry Lytle. The investigation into the incident in which Lytle was injured also has been reclassified from a negligent injury to a negligent homicide.

At this time, police believe that alcohol is a factor in the crash, and a negligent homicide investigation is ongoing.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle near the intersection of Waiānuenue Avenue and Rainbow Drive on Thursday night.

86-year-old Yvonne Mira of Hilo died Feb. 3 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, less than a week after the single-vehicle crash off Kaʻūmana Drive.

The 21-year-old was identified as Jahnya Serquina-Octubre of Mountain View. An autopsy was ordered to determine her exact cause of death, and police reclassified their investigation into the collision as a negligent homicide.

This is the 29th traffic fatality on Hawai‘i Island in 2024 compared to 15 this time last year.

He was identified as 20-year-old Isaac Dakujaku of Hilo. The Hawai‘i Police Department Area I Traffic Enforcement Unit continues to investigate the 2-vehicle collision as a negligent homicide. 

The pedestrian was transported to the Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:59 a.m.

Multiple witnesses confirmed the pedestrian was standing by the stop sign before running into the road in front of the pickup truck.

Sienna Tavares-Brown’s blood alcohol content was allegedly more than three times the legal limit.

The accident occurred in Hilo, on Saturday evening on East Kawili Street just east of Manono Street.
