Fifty years of hula, halau hula (or hula schools) of years past will be honored on the stage at this year’s Ho’ike night 2013 at the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival.
King David Kalakaua – The Merrie Monarch
The Merrie Monarch is dedicated to the memory of King David Kalakaua, also known as the Merrie Monarch. When coming to the throne in 1874, he was a patron of the arts, especially music and dance.
