The Royal Parade drew thousands to see high school bands, hālaus, paniolos, princesses, organizations and more walk the 2-mile route from Kamehameha Avenue all the way around downtown Hilo to celebrate the 60th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival.  

The Merrie Monarch Royal Parade will be in Downtown Hilo on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., with than 100 horses gussied up to carry women dressed in long, colorful skirts (pāʻu) riding sidesaddle or as part of a private mount group.

The Group Hula ʻAuana competition is set for 6 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Edith Kanakaʻole Stadium.

The Merrie Monarch Royal Parade begins at 10:39 a.m.; Group ʻAuana at 6 p.m.

The Merrie Monarch Festival continues with a week-long schedule of cultural events and activities through Saturday. Group Hula Kahiko will be featured tonight.

The Miss Aloha Hula competition will be held today, in addition to the continuing free, midday entertainment and Arts Fair.

The Merrie Monarch Invitational Hawaiian Arts Fair begins today and the evening will feature Hōʻike performances.

The Merrie Monarch Festival kicks off on Sunday, April 21, with a Hoʻolauleʻa (celebration) at 9 a.m. at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

Ka Lā ‘Ōnohi Mai O Ha‘eha‘e, under the direction of Nā Kumu Tracie and Keawe Lopes, won the overall title in the 2017 Merrie Monarch Festival hula competition.
