Reigning Ironman World Champion Laura Philipp of Germany will lead the professional field that includes two other Ironman World Champions: Great Britain’s Lucy Charles-Barclay and American Chelsea Sodaro.

The field is absolutely stacked, filled with world champions and Olympians, making this one of the most competitive lineups in recent memory, and while anything can happen, one thing is sure: the race will be a star-studded showdown.

Former Ironman World Champions Lucy Charles-Barclay and Chelsea Sodaro also will be competing in the grueling 140.6-mile swim, bike and run triathlon on Oct. 11 in Kona on the Big Island.

After finishing second four times, Lucy Charles-Barclay of Great Britain wins the 2023 VinFast Ironman World Championship in Kona in a record time of 8:24:31.

Starting at 6:25 a.m. HST, women will begin the grueling 140.6-mile race at Kailua Bay. Following the 2.4-mile swim, athletes will transition to the bike for 112 miles and finish the race with a 26.2-mile run.

For the first time in the 40-plus year history of triathlon’s pinnacle event, professional and age-group women will have their own edition of the VinFast Ironman World Championship triathlon in Kailua-Kona on Oct. 14.

The 2022 Ironman World Championship in Kona was the largest in its four-decade history with nearly 5,000 finishers, 20,000 plus spectators and an estimated $100 million pumped into the economy on the Big Island.

The strongest women’s professional field in Ironman World Championship history will compete in the grueling 140.6-mile triathlon in Kona on Thursday. They all will be gunning for “Angry Bird.”
