Gov. Josh Green signed into law 12 bills on Wednesday, aimed at fortifying Hawaiʻi’s agricultural resilience, enhancing biosecurity measures, and promoting responsible land management practices. 

The Mauna Kea Stewardship and Oversight Authority will assume governance and management responsibility over the mauna after a five-year transition period.

Sen. Ronald Kouchi or Kaua’i, who has led the chamber since 2015, conveyed a message of interconnectedness and collaboration necessary to tackle the issues facing the state during this session and beyond.

After years of effort by many, including the late lineal descendant Aunty Patti-Ann Solomon, 642 acres of beloved — and historically, culturally and ecologically important — land in Māhukona is close to being protected forever.
